Microscope Repair Video

As promised here is the video that will teach you how to tune-up the focus knob on that old GIA Gemolite microscope… as well as the focus mechanism for many other microscopes. If you have not read the previous post titled “I can’t keep it a secret…” please do so now as it has a list of materials as well as an important warning about the risk that you bear in trying this procedure at home.

This video is about 22 minutes long so it may take a while to load if you have a slow connection. Even if you do not watch the entire thing, make sure to forward to the fancy little advertising screens at the end of the video. They are colorful and fun! They pop up in the last minute or so.

I welcome any and all questions, complaints, or constructive criticism regarding the procedure presented in this video. Good luck and thanks for stopping by!

SPECIAL NOTE! ONE OF OUR VIEWERS, ALBERTO FROM ITALY MENTIONED THAT I SHOULD WARN EVERYONE TO TREAT THE POD VERY GENTLY! IT IS A DELICATE INSTRUMENT AND IT MAY NOT TAKE A GREAT DEAL OF SHOCK TO AFFECT THE PRISM INSIDE AND COMPROMISE THE ALIGNMENT. ALSO, HE MENTIONED THAT WHEN REMOVING THE EYEPIECES IT IS A GOOD IDEA TO COVER THE HOLES SO DUST DOES NOT GET INSIDE THE POD.

VERY GOOD POINTS, ALBERTO, AND THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR CONTRIBUTING HERE!

If the video does not play, or if you get an error message, please refresh the page and try again! Sometimes Google Video has issues with longer files and this usually takes care of the problem.  Also if you have a slower connection (even if it is broadband) please be patient while the video loads.
